Shu Ogata (緒方 シュウ, 'Ogata Shū'?) is the main male protagonist of the anime, Engage Kiss. He is the founder of the micro Private Military Company (PMC) "I&S (Isamu & Shu Office)" which undertakes demon extermination work. Shu was originally employed by the major PMC "AAA Defender Co." but left the company two years ago to start I&S which he runs its operations together with his partner Kisara. Shu only takes on specific jobs and is notorious for undercutting the industry by significantly under bidding for the contract works that he desires. As a result, Shu is financially poor in his personal life and is barely able to pay for his own bills.

Shu is a tall (180cm) man with messy black hair, gray eyes and good-looking features.
He usually wears a black shirt under a long dark green coat, full pants, and brown shoes.
Personality[]
On the surface, Shu might seem to be a loser, which is even mentioned in the title of the first episode 'A Loser and a Demon and a Man and a Woman'. At the start of the anime, Shu had not done any job in 3 months. When he met Ayano Yuugiri at a cafe, the latter paid for his meal and phone bills. He also relied on Kisara to cook his meals, clean up his place, and pay for his utility bills.
However as the story progresses, it is made known that Shu circumstances was due to him giving up his memories in order to power up Kisara so that she can help him in his goals, which is to investigate the real cause of his parent's death, as well as to save his sister which Shu believe is still alive. Due to having only a limited amount of memories to power Kisara, he needed to be picky with his jobs and only chooses to do the ones that will lead him towards his goals. His financial situation also starts to improve once he received payment for the contract works that he successfully completed and he was able to suggest eating out with Kisara.
History[]
Shu Ogata is the main male protagonist of the story. 12 years ago, Shu's father, Isamu Ogata, who was working as a 'Demon-Hazard Risk Consultant' was investigating an Orgonium mine which he believes is linked to demons appearing in the city. A demon accident happened which killed everyone at the mine except for Shu. The city covered up the news and the higher ups put the blame on Shu's father for causing the accident.
As an orphan, Shu was adopted by Miles, and trained to be a demon-slayer by Akino who was once an apprentice of Isamu. Shu would later work for Akino in her private military company, AAA Defender Corp that handles government contracts to takedown demons that appear in the city. At some point in time 3 years before the start of Episode 1, he gets into a romantic relationship with Akino's daughter, Ayano Yuugiri , much to the chagrin of Akino who initially disapproved of their relationship. Ayano was very much in love with Shu, and they even cohabitated together. At some point within the same year, Shu starts seeing dreams of his little sister calling out to him for help. This led Shu to believe that his sister is still alive and he started searching for various means to investigate further.
Around 2 years before the start of the main story, he formed a contract with a powerful demon, Kisara, and Shu left AAA Defender to start his own private military company I&S with Kisara. He also broke up with his girlfriend, Ayano, around that time.

Abilities[]
Shu is shown to be a very proficient shooter and fighter. In Episode 3, he was able to land both shots that he took from his sniper rifle dead centre into the core of a flying moth demon from a distance away while Kisara was battling against it.
In Episode 5, Shu was able to save Kisara from Maria using hand-hand-combat.

Etymology[]
- Shu's surname Ogata means "thread" (緒) (o) and "direction, person, side" (方) (kata/gata).
Trivia[]
- As a memento, Shu has a family photo from when he was too young.
- The said photo has been framed in the room, and Kisara customized it by pasting her photo in the middle.
- Shu is a smokerahohic and his favorite cigarette brand is 'Marutoro' which is a word play on the author of Engage Kiss, Maruto, and the cigaratte brand Marlboro.
